Resumen
Las independencias de América latina determinaron el reordenamiento del mundo contemporáneo y el surgimiento de la Doctrina Monroe (1823) en los Estados Unidos. Esta doctrina atraviesa varios momentos históricos: el primero, demuestra un americanismo imperfecto, pues no se frenaron una serie de intervenciones europeas en el continente. La segunda, respondió al expansionismo norteamericano de la época del imperialismo y sirvió para justificarla. La tercera logró la unidad del continente en el anticomunismo de la Guerra Fría. La cuarta coincide inicialmente con la difusión del neoliberalismo y deriva en crisis del americanismo-monroísta. El latinoamericanismo ha confrontado al americanismo, pero en el pasado de la región no alcanzó fortaleza ni coordinación. En el presente, el latinoamericanismo ha pasado a ser la fuerza determinante de un futuro en construcción, ante un mundo que igualmente dejó atrás la hegemonía unipolar de los EE.UU. y camina a ser multipolar y pluricultural.

Abstract
The independence of Latin America determined the reordering of the contemporary world and the emergence of the Monroe Doctrine (1823) in the United States. This doctrine is going through several historical moments: the first, demonstrates an imperfect Americanism, since a series of European interventions on the continent were not stopped. The second responded to the US expansionism of the time of imperialism and served to justify it. The third achieved the unity of the continent in the anti-communism of the Cold War. The fourth coincides initially with the spread of neoliberalism and leads to a crisis of Americanism-Monroism. Latin Americanism has confronted Americanism, but in the region’s past it has failed to achieve strength or coordination. In the present, Latin Americanism has become the determining force of a future under construction, in the face of a world that also left behind the unipolar hegemony of the United States and is moving to be multipolar and pluricultural.
